Eating Disorder Counseling In Michigan

PROGRAM INFORMATION - Why a Structured Program?

Why attend a structured group program and counseling to confront compulsive overeating?
Why not just use a book or two from the recommended reading list included on this web site?
After all, your life is already busy; you have family and/or professional demands and don’t need  to add another thing to your schedule or budget. Why then?

Because by yourself you’ve tried every diet or behavior change plan you could get your hands
on and you still struggle with food. It is essential to work with and gain support
from others.  Attending a group program will likely challenge you to expand your comfort zone; however,  learning that you are not alone in the struggle promotes hopefulness.

Many compulsive overeaters struggle with symptoms such as hiding or sneaking food, eating  alone, and preoccupation with and loss of control over food. They eat when already full and use  food to medicate or avoid feelings and social relationships. As a result they often experience  shame, guilt, anxiety, depression, and isolation.

The Transforming Your Food Attitude program is not another diet. It is a unique non-restrictive  approach to resolving the compulsions underlying the eating disorder or disordered eating.
It is designed for people who have had enough of dieting and feeling defeated. It is not a weight  loss program; although clients often find that weight loss does occur slowly over time as a  result of working within program guidelines and confronting underlying issues. The program will  empower you to make healthier choices with food and develop an inner desire and willingness
to move your body. The TYFA program is a process, not an event.
